HISTORY

ICMA (Institute of Certified Management Accountants) was established in 1996 with the vision of becoming the premier body for Management Accountants. Now, after 25 years, ICMA is a global leader in Management Accounting with over 10,000 members. ICMA currently has regional offices and branches in 14 countries and members in more than 50 countries.
Unlike some other international professional organizations, ICMA tightly controls its education and training by appointing only one Regional Office that is closely supervised or Centers in each country or territory to conduct CMA member training.
CMA is primarily offered to senior professionals, mainly those with over 5 years of experience. ICMA’s educational programs have also been incorporated into many Master’s degree programs at Australian and international universities. In Australia, the CMA program is equivalent to MBA programs at top 100 universities in the world.
The ICMA Vietnam office was established in early 2014 with a visit from ICMA CEO, Professor Janek Ratnatunga. After this visit, AFA Research & Education was designated as the recognized training center in Vietnam for the CMA Australia program. AFA is led by Mr. Long Phan and a professional team to deliver CMA Australia training in Vietnam. The CMA Australia program, ‘Strategic Management and Financial Management,’ is an international professional program in the fields of financial management and strategic management designed for senior-level managers.
The first CMA program in Vietnam was conducted in June 2014 with 25 participants, personally trained by Professor Janek Ratnatunga. CMA participants are primarily financial leaders from banks, accounting firms, chief accountants, and financial directors from various industries. Some CMA Australia members who graduated from the first CMA course in Vietnam include:
  • Mr. Ngụy Quốc Tuấn, CEO of Grant Thornton, Ho Chi Minh City office
  • Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Gấm, Deputy CEO of Lienvietpost Bank
  • Mrs. Bùi Thị Minh Tâm, CEO of Saigon-Hanoi Debt Management Company (SHB)
The second and third CMA programs were organized in August 2015 and May 2016. CMA Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants (VACPA) in June 2014.
