ICMA was established in 1996, with a vision to achieve a position as the leading body of Management Accounting professionals. Currently, after 25 years, ICMA is the leading organization in global Management Accounting with more than 10,000 members. ICMA currently has Regional Offices and Branches in 14 countries and members in more than 50 countries.

Unlike many other international professional organizations, ICMA retains tight control over its training by having only one closely aligned Regional Office or Center in each country or territory to conduct training of CMA members.

CMA is mainly offered to senior professionals, who mainly have more than 5 years of experience. ICMA’s educational programs have also been incorporated into many master’s degree programs of Australian and foreign universities. In Australia, the CMA Program matches the MBA programs in the Top 100 in the world.

CMA Vietnam Office was established in early 2014 with the visit of ICMA Executive Director, Professor Janek Ratnatunga. Following that visit, AFA Research & Education was designated as an accredited training center in Vietnam for the CMA Australia program. AFA is led by Mr. Long Phan and a professional team to conduct CMA Australia training in Vietnam. The CMA Australia program “Strategic Finance and Management” is an international professional program in the field of financial administration and strategic management for senior managers.

The first CMA Australia program in Vietnam was implemented in June 2014 with 25 students directly trained by Professor Janek Ratnatunga. CMA students are mainly financial leaders of banks, accounting firms, chief accountants and financial directors of various professions. Some CMA Australia members have graduated from the first CMA course in Vietnam such as:

• Mr. Nguy Quoc Tuan, Managing Director of Grant Thornton, Ho Chi Minh City Office
• Ms. Nguyen Thi Gam, Deputy General Director of Lien Viet Post Bank
• Ms. Bui Thi Minh Tam, General Director of Saigon – Hanoi Debt Management Company (SHB)

The second and third CMA programs were held in August 2015 and May 2016. CMA Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants (VACPA) in June 2014
